About Gus

Born in the mountains,
built for the stage

Gus Benson is a 25-year-old songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and audio engineer. Originally born and raised in North Carolina, his music is shaped by the folk tradition — Appalachian music, blues, and roots form the foundation, a jumping-off point for deeper exploration.

Gus graduated from Brown University with a B.A. in Music in 2024. When not in the woodshed, he's surfing or restoring vintage motorcycles.

Senior Capstone · Brown University 2024

Shades of Blue

In partial fulfillment of the requirements of the A.B. degree in Music at Brown University, Gus spent his senior spring crafting a collection of seven original songs. Written, recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered entirely by Gus during the spring 2024 semester — available for pre-release listening (all rights reserved).

Gus plans to release the EP to streaming platforms following a final revision process.

Faculty Advisor: Jim Moses — vital sounding board, plugin guru, and first listener throughout the spring.
Collaborator: Ethan Asis — compositional expertise and ear; co-debuted the project in early May.
